In our bid to bring you every roulette strategy possible in our crypto Roulette selection of games the next system we would like to introduce is the ‘Roulette Quadrant Strategy’.
This is a strategy that helps you create less volatile coups, i.e. wheel spins or betting rounds with lower variance or risk by covering 25% and up to 75% of the betting board!
This is a system that comes with several sub-strategies giving you multiple options on how you can apply its concept. And while there are several blogs out there on the Web that cover the Roulette Quadrant Strategy, many of them are either confusing or too brief in their explanations. Our aim is to give you a simple version of how to use this strategy because honestly this is an easy system to implement!
One of the reasons this strategy found its way into casinos around the world is because ‘Wheel Bias’ which we explained in some of our previous roulette guides. Results on older or dysfunctional roulette wheels tend to favour a section of the wheel and so roulette players set out to break their bets down so the spread covers the quadrant of the wheel the ball is most likely to land.
If you’re looking for a more straight up strategy, try the Single Number Roulette Strategy.
You can check out our ‘Roulette Team Strategy to Gain an Edge’ guide for a detailed overview on how pro roulette players use ‘Wheel Bias’ as a strategy.
However, the Roulette Quadrant strategy only takes the idea of segmenting the roulette wheel but instead applies the segmentation strategy to inside and outside bets available on the betting board which you will discover as you read each system outlined in this roulette guide…
The aim of the Quadrant Strategies
The idea is to cover at least 25% of the table or roulette wheel so you have a 1 in 4 chance of winning or 75% of the table inevitably giving you a 3 in 4 chance of winning. You can come up with your own idea on how to use this strategy too because there is no one size fits all. However, what we can do is help you understand how people are using the Quadrant strategy today which will give you a concept that you can go out and make adjustments.
Now covering 25% of the table sounds like an expensive proposition while covering 75% even more so. However, in crypto roulette you also have the help of outside bets that cover multiple section of the board as well as a variety of inside betting options.
Racetrack Bets Vs Quadrant Strategies
If you are already familiar with roulette, you will already know that betting on sections of the roulette wheel is popular because of the ‘racetrack’ found on European and French roulette tables. However, although we could easily class these ‘call bets’ as a form of Quadrant strategy, we will not cover these bets in this guide.
The main reason we ignore ‘racetrack bets’ is because the Quadrant strategy and its many systems offer more flexibility. Even though this system does derive from segmenting and betting on sections of the wheel, it only takes the idea of ‘segmenting’ the wheel but does not exactly use it.
Instead, many Roulette Quadrant systems segment the betting board and not the wheel. This is different because when we look at the betting board, the numbers are not in same sequence as the wheel.
The main reason we ignore ‘racetrack bets’ is because the Quadrant strategy and its many systems offer more flexibility. Even though this system does derive from segmenting and betting on sections of the wheel, it takes the idea of ‘segmenting’ the wheel but also uses systems that segment the betting board.
When the strategy segments the betting board, the numbers are not in segments of wheel.
- Racetrack bets use pre-set wheel sections
- Quadrant strategies are flexible
- You can divide the roulette board into sections
The Basic Roulette Quadrant Strategy
Using the most basic form of all the Quadrant systems is rather simple. Literally, all you need to do is look at the roulette wheel and break it down into 4 quadrants. Within these quadrants, you will need to devise a betting strategy.
It is entirely up to your own discretion how you divide the roulette wheel into 4 segments. That is the beauty of this strategy – it is one that is dynamic and is why pro roulette players looking to take advantage of a bias wheel have the Quadrant roulette strategy perfected.
Betting on quadrants: The only part of this strategy that needs extra thought is how you place your bets. You will need to pick a quadrant or multiple quadrants you want to place bets in. In theory each quadrant has roughly 9 numbers, so you could place 9 straight bets.
Using Alternative Bets: If you spot the opportunity to use split bets or corner bets to reduce the risk by using less chips on your Quadrant bets, then by all means feel free to include this in your betting strategy.
- Break the roulette wheel down into 4 quadrants
- You decide on the quadrants you want to create
- Create a betting strategy you are comfortable with
American & European Roulette Wheel Quadrants
Now you have an understating of the basic roulette strategy, you may be wondering what happens when you play this system on the 2 roulette wheel variants. Below we give you some options, but ultimately, it is up to you to decide which you are most comfortable with.
American Wheel Variant: The American roulette wheel has ‘0’ and ’00’ with a total of 38 numbers. You have several choices here. You can have orphaned numbers and create 4 quadrants of 9 with 2 numbers left out or you can have 2 quadrants with an additional number in each.
Your 2 options when breaking an American roulette wheel into 4 quadrants:
- 2 quadrants of 9 + 2 quadrants of 10 numbers
- 4 quadrants of 9 with 2 orphaned numbers
Amarican Roulette Wheel (Left) – European Roulette Wheel (Right)
European Wheel Variant: The European roulette wheel only has 37 numbers which makes dividing the wheel into 4 equal quadrant impossible. You can easily create 4 quadrants of 9 with 1 number left out.
Your 2 options when breaking a European American roulette wheel into 4 quadrants:
- 3 quadrants of 9 + 1 quadrant of 10 numbers
- 4 quadrants of 9 with 2 orphaned numbers
Testing the Quadrant System
To understand if the Quadrant system is worthwhile, we need to look at the ‘Basic Roulette Quadrant strategy’ first and its fundamental idea. Then we need to play around with our bet types, for example, use all straight bets or mix straight bets with split and corner bets. Only then can we get an idea of the real ROI this strategy is worth.
Scenario 1: 9 Straight Bets in 1 Quadrant
We are essentially breaking the roulette wheel into 4 segments. Now without looking into the mathematics behind this division of the wheel too closely, if you bet on all the numbers in a single Quadrant of 9, then you are covering 9 straight bets.
For arguments sake, let’s say this is €10 per straight bet, and therefore, €90 per coup. With ¼ of the wheel covered, in theory we have a 1 in 4 chance of hitting one of our straight down bets or 25%.
If we lose 3 consecutive spins, we lose €90 x 4 = €270. That’s 75% or our 3 out of 4 lost. Now probability dictates that we should hit our ¼ of the wheel on the 4th spin.
When we do, the pay out is 35-1. A win means we get our €10 bet on the winning number returned, and €10 x 35 = €350 so now we have €360. We lost the other 8 straight bets on that coup, so we need to minus €80 from our winnings. €360 – €80 = €280. From 4 coups our profit is €10.
In this scenario, the ROI is low. To win big using this strategy we still need lady luck to be on our side. For example, if we hit our numbers 2 out of 4 times, the ROI is high. That said, the results could just as easily go against us and we lose big while vying for such a small amount if probability plays out the 1 win in 4 coup scenario.
Conclusion: It’s hard to see a distinct advantage to using the Roulette Quadrant strategy. If you use entirely straight bets and probability works as it should, the gains are small. Plus, in our example, we did not include the fact that there could be 1 or 2 orphaned numbers or 10 quadrants which means the 1 in 4 win ratio is more like 0.9 in 4.
Scenario 2: 2 straight bets + 2 split bets + 1 corner bet
If we decide we can feasably use 2 straight bets (2 numbers), 2 split bets (4 numbers), and 1 corner bet (4 numbers) covering a 10 number quadrant, and our bets are €10 each, that’s 5 bets in total so €50 per coup.
Straight Bet Win (35-1): We get our €10 bet on the winning number returned, and €10 x 35 = €350 giving us €360 in total. Minus our other 4 lost bets of €40, we are €320 in profit.
If this win comes on coup 4 after losing the first 3, we need to minus €150 meaning we have a profit of €170!
Split Bet Win (17-1): Our €10 bet on the winning split bet comes back to us, and €10 x 17 = €170 giving us €180 in total. Minus our other 4 lost bets from the winning coup which is €40, we are €140 in profit after 4 coups.
If this win comes on coup 4 after losing the first 3, we need to minus €150 meaning we have a loss -€10 after 4 coups!
Corner Bet Win (8-1): We get our €10 bet on the winning number returned, and €10 x 8 = €80 giving us €90. Minus our other 4 lost bets of €40, we are €50 in profit from the coup.
If this win comes on coup 4 after losing the first 3, we need to minus €150 meaning we have a loss -€100 after 4 coups!
Conclusion: Breaking down bets into split bets or corner bets actually works against you. In the long run, only the 2 straight bets will put in you profit. Meanwhile the split and corner bets will give you a negative result if you win 1 out of 4 spins according to probability. Plus, you use up your 1 in 4!
Scenario 3: 2 straight bets + 2 split bets + 1 corner bets + increasing bet sizes
We will use exactly the same principles as in ‘Scenario 2’ but we are going to double the corner bet value to €20. Therefore, now our outlay per coup is an additional €10, so €60 is bet on each coup. This gets really interesting if we use probability as a given. x2 Straight Bets (€10 each), x2 Split bets (€10 each), and x1 Corner Bet (€20).
Straight Bet Win (35-1): We get our €10 bet on the winning number returned, and €10 x 35 = €350 giving us €360 in total. Minus our other 4 lost bets of €50, we are €310 in profit.
If this win comes on coup 4 after losing the first 3, we need to minus €180 meaning we have a profit of €130!
Split Bet Win (17-1): Our €10 bet on the winning split bet comes back to us, and €10 x 17 = €170 giving us €180 in total. Minus our other 4 lost bets from the winning coup which is €50, we are €130 in profit after 4 coups.
If this win comes on coup 4 after losing the first 3, we need to minus €180 meaning we have a loss -€50 after 4 coups!
Corner Bet Win (8-1): We get our €20 bet on the winning number returned, and €20 x 8 = €160 giving us €180. Minus our other 4 lost bets of €40, we are €140 in profit from the coup.
If this win comes on coup 4 after losing the first 3, we need to minus €180 meaning we have a loss -€40 after 4 coups!
Conclusion: This is an interesting scenario. If we go by the laws of probability and assume we win 1 coup out 4, let’s see what happens.
We hit our corner bet 1 time in 4 coups we are -€40. Then we hit our 2 split bets in the next 8 coups, so -€50 x 2 means we lose another -€100. Now we are only -€140 down. In the next 8 coups we hit both our straight bets €260 profit minus our €140 loss means we are now €120 in profit.
This looks great but remember we are betting on 10 numbers. In this scenario we have only hit 5 numbers in this scenario. We still need to hit another 3 numbers in the corner bet (-€120) and another 2 numbers within the split bets (-€100).
Once again, breaking up the bets or adding chips fails us! Therefore, the only way to use the Roulette Quadrant bet is to use straight bets as much as possible because breaking numbers down into split and corner bets results in higher losses if we go by the laws of probability which is 1 win out 4!
The 3 Quadrant Roulette Strategy
The 3 Quadrant Strategy is another way to break down the roulette wheel into segments. In fact, this strategy is more about breaking down the betting board rather than wheel. The idea is to cover a large percentage of the roulette betting board but bear in mind that there is a trade off here, which is a lower pay-off when you win.
Here is what we are going to do:
- Break the betting board up into 3 sections
- Cover 3 quarters of the table
Now this strategy will not strictly use quadrants as an exact mathematical break down. We know that we have 37 numbers to play with, and we are going to settle for covering 3 quadrants of 9 which is 27 numbers, which leaves 10 numbers spare. On an American Roulette table, you will leave 11 numbers spare due to the extra ’00’.
It is also worth noting that as with the standard Quadrant Roulette Strategy above, you have some flexibility to devise your own break down of the betting board. All we are going to do here is give you a commonly used 3 Quadrant Strategy. If you play online roulette, then you can save your various 3 Quadrant betting patterns as favorites. This means you will have multiple 1-click Quadrant bets prepared!
Let’s look at some of the betting patterns available:
Scenario 1: 9 street bets cover 27 numbers
Each street bet cover 3 numbers. To place a street bet, you need to place a chip on the edge of a row of 3 numbers. If your bet is successful, then your payout is 11 to 1. As you can see from the ‘Winning Odds’ below, it is preferable to play on a European or French roulette table versus American/US variants of the game.
- 9 Street Bets (27 Numbers)
- €10 per street bet = €90 per coup
- Street bet pays 11-1
- Street Bet 8.1% Winning Odds (European/French)
- Street Bet 7.9% Winning Odds (American/US)
Now the most sensible way to break down any strategy is to use probability. There are 37 numbers and we have 27 covered. Therefore, we should win 27 coups out of 37 in theory.
- A single win pays 11-1 = €110
- We also get our €10 bet back = €120
- Minus our 8 lost bets of €10 (€80) = €30 Profit
- 27 coups won (€30 x 27) = €810 Profit
- 10 coups lost (€90 per coup) = €900 Lost
- 37 Coups = €90 loss
Conclusion: In theory if probability plays out exactly as it should, this strategy would mean we lose €90 after 37 coups. This proves it is not a winning strategy! However, probability never plays out at is should.
That said, and if you happened to hit several wins consecutively, you could find yourself in profit quite quickly. On the other hand, your luck could just as easily go the other way!
You can test the above strategy out right now here: BGaming European Roulette free play – use the demo version.
Scenario 2: Even Money + 3 Street Bets
This strategy works bets if you split the table in half, and to do that, the best outside ‘even money’ bet is the high low bet.
Numbers run in sequence on a roulette betting board so half the numbers are ‘High’ and the other half are ‘Low’. This is as opposed to odd-even or red-black bets which distributed evenly up and down the table meaning you would end up covering some numbers twice with the same bet. We want to cover multiple numbers but only once with each bet.
In this scenario we are covering 27 numbers. If we pick ‘high’, then our street bets will need to cover low numbers, and vice versa.
- 3 Street Bets (9 Numbers)
- 1 ‘High-Low’ Bet (18 numbers)
- €10 per street bet = €30 per coup
- €10 ‘High’ bet = €60 per coup
- Total Bet = €90 per coup
- Even Odds Bet 48.6% Winning Odds (European/French)
- Even Odds Bet 47.4% Winning Odds (American/US)
As we are betting €10 per street bet, we already know out street bets will return a €30 profit when successful.
- Our ‘High’ bet pays us back our €60 bet + €60 winnings = €120
- Minus the total cost of the coup (€90) = €30 profit
Conclusion: We do not need to carry on with this equation because we already know that our even odds winnings pays the same as if we bet 9 street bets. As you can see from the list below, we still end up
- 27 coups won (€30 x 27) = €810 Profit
- 10 coups lost (€90 per coup) = €900 Lost
- 37 Coups = €90 loss
Summarizing the 3 Quadrant Roulette Strategy
As with all roulette strategies, there is never a surefire way to beat the house. What we like about the 3 Quadrant roulette technique is that if things do go your way, then the pay off is well worth the effort. However, in the example of above you need to hit 3 wins out 4 coups to stay in the green.
- Win = €30
- Win = €30
- Win = €30
- Loss = -€90
As you can see, you can start well and lose it all fast. If you start badly, then you could end up deep into the red quickly. Of course we are using €90 per coup bets. If that’s too much, then just bet €9 per coup on tables with a min bet of €1 and for even lower stakes, you can bet €0.90 per coup as quite a few live roulette and virtual roulette tables have €0.10 minimum bets.
In the end, the 3 Quadrant roulette strategy is a way to turn the ‘high variance’ game of roulette into one that has ‘low variance’ according to probability. Although some may argue that it is still a highly volatile strategy because you could lose big if variance runs against probability.
- Play this strategy until you collect plenty of wins then switch it up
- If you begin to lose, you could end up losing large amounts
- In theory you are converting a high variance game into a low variance one
How to Practice These Strategies Online
One of the most comfortable ways to practice roulette strategies is to play online roulette tables which you will find at mBit Casino.
By playing online versions, you have several roulette table options to choose from so you can master the Roulette Quadrant system. Below we give you our step-by-step guide to prepare your for both live dealer and land-based casino roulette tables.
You can start slowly with virtual roulette tables, and then work your way up. By the time you have played several coups, you will have no problems implementing any of the Roulette Quadrant strategies and interchanging between them on any roulette table.
Now the key to mastering online roulette is to master the repeat options and learn how to change your bets when your want to switch up your Quadrant strategy. However, you have no auto bet functions when you are at a live BTC casino, so we suggest also learning how to place bets that are part of your quadrant strategy quickly!
Start with virtual roulette: On virtual roulette tables there is no timer between coups. You can plan your strategy, implement it, and make adjustments in your own time. The outcome of each coup is determined by a random number generator (RNG) or a provably fair casino gaming algorithm if you are playing on our crypto casino.
Move to Auto-Roulette: Once you are confident with your strategy, move to ‘Auto Roulette’ live dealer table. These are live roulette wheels that spin on auto with no dealer. You will also find auto roulette tables in land-based casinos and casino gaming lounges.
There is usually a timer between coups so you can get used to placing bets and implementing your strategy while you are on the clock which is a great way to prepare yourself for live dealer roulette tables or land-based casino tables.
Try First-Person roulette tables: The First Person Roulette table is unique to Evolution which is a live dealer software platform. The developer created a virtual version of their live dealer roulette table.
It is perfect if you are nervous about heading over to a live roulette table and trying out your Quadrant Roulette strategy because it mimics the live dealer version providing you with a similar experience and atmosphere. As soon as you are ready for the live dealer table, just hit the ‘Go Live’ option.
Start playing on live dealer tables: Once you are comfortable with playing on the above roulette tables with your Quadrant system in place, you can play live roulette tables. On mBit Casino you will find tables from Pragmatic Play Live, Ezugi, and Evolution hosted by a live croupier.
You will be on the clock, but don’t worry if you miss a spin because you can always bet the next one. Live dealer tables give you an authentic land-based casino experience while playing via your mobile or desktop device!
Lightning Roulette or Jackpot Roulette: Once you are a confident roulette player, you can try your luck on customer roulette tables with big multiplier win features. For example, Evolution has its ‘Lightning Roulette’ table on which you can earn multipliers worth 50x to 500x your winnings. You can also head over to Ezugi’s jackpot roulette and place side bets that could land you a huge jackpot win!
